Newspaper Accounts After Death

Newspapers occasionally published columns of old news headlines from 10, 20, or 50 years into the past.

When searching newspapers be open to the possibility that your ancestor may be mentioned in a newspaper article decades after his death.

The obituary may not be the last time your ancestor was mentioned in a newspaper.

  1. As often as I see that in our newspaper, it never dawned on me to think of that in regard to ancestors! Thanks!

  2. In my home town paper, I recently saw my sister and brothers name in the 1940 news of being on the honor roll in the little country school we went to. I always read that part of the paper first to see if my grandparents, parents or other relatives were mentioned way back.
